Idea
Building your personal brand isn’t just for entrepreneurs, leaders, and organizations. In today’s world it’s just as important if you’re working within a company because a powerful personal brand not only attracts opportunities, it also results in promotions within companies.
The most important thing for building your personal brand is to think about value. Ultimately your worth is directly correlated to how much value you deliver, rather than how much payment you take in.
Value lies in listening to your clients, colleagues, and the people around you and understanding how you can bring value into their lives and their work in order to help them move forward.
- What can you do to add value to the lives of others?
- What can you do to bring positivity into the work place?
- What can you do to help your colleagues and clients, and deliver them value above and beyond what is expected?
Example
One of my coaching clients is a salesperson and through our work together she realized that sometimes the best way to sell is not to sell at all. Rather, it’s to connect with your client and understand where they are so that you determine the best way you can deliver value.
My client also decided to bring this positivity and adding-value mindset into her workplace and team. Among other things, she brought coffee in for her colleagues, asked how she could help her team members, and made connections for her team with others in her network so that they could move forward in their products.
Within 9 months she was able to get a promotion because of the culture she had created in her team. The new team culture became so infectious that other teams wanted to understand and replicate what she was doing.
Action
Think about how can you add value in your workplace. For example by:
- Developing more skills
- Seeing yourself at that next level
- Being proactive in seeking opportunities and new projects
- Contributing and adding value to a team or client meeting or to someone new joining your team
What one thing can you do to bring value and positivity into your workplace today?
